Day 15: A book character you want to know more about?

In Harry Potter:

Severus Snape. Period.

I want to know his backstory, his upbringing, his days in the Muggle world with Lily Potter. This also reminds me, I want to know more about Aunt Petunia as well. J.K. Rowling, if you are reading this, then please please please have a back story in Pottermore 😀

In Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants:

Bree’s mother. Without a doubt in the world. I wanted to know her perspective and what were her thoughts.

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 14

Day 14: What Does A Perfect Reading Nook Look Like?

Something like the ones shown here in this post 😉

I often wonder what other people’s reading spaces look like. It is after all, our comfort zone isn’t it 😀

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 13

Day 13: How Do You Decide What To Read Next?

This is where the challenge gets challenging for me! Well, I will be honest with you. See, I have the time but not the energy to keep the eyes open after a full-time ‘staring at the screen’ job 😦 This affects my decision to read the books – light ones on weekdays and anything on weekends, when I can spare some of the energy.

So, no…there is no hard and fast rule as to how I decide what to read next. I make a queue of five books at a row and pick the one I am in the mood to read and go ahead. That explains my incomplete reading lists 😉

Day 12: A Book You Will Never Outgrow

Well, we booklovers and readers never outgrow any book…do we? For me, it will be Harry Potter Series. Although a number of adults also love the book, for many parents it is a “kid’s book” and why are we so obsessed with it 😛 Sample this, I sent my bestie the three-book library set of Harry Potter books on her birthday!!

No. We will never outgrow the world of HP. EVER!!! 😀 😛

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 11

Day 11: A book that you have reread the most of the times?

A Gathering Light (also published as A Northern Light) by Jennifer Donnelly is one book that has been reread the maximum number of times. Even more than the Harry Potter series! I fall short of words when it comes to describing the brilliance that the book has. Give it a try, will you? 😀

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 10

Day 10: A book you were excited about reading, only to find that it wasn’t what you were expecting

I would rephrase this as – a book I was excited about reading and found out that it wasn’t what I was expecting, but was way better. And the book would be…

The Bridge to Terabithia. Wonderful coming of age novel about friendship 🙂

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 9

Day 9: The most surprising plot twist or ending

And The Mountains Echoed.  The book has failed me. Completely failed me 😦

It started on a promising note, took me to Afghanistan and then…arcs after arcs of confusing characters.

I started the book with a friend, and he gave up midway. I stayed with it till the end only to find a very disappointing end. Not done 😦

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 8

Day 8:  A book that you can read from anywhere?

The Holy Bible. Pick it up, open any page and you can derive a lot of knowledge from it. I love the old testament the most though.

In fiction, it has to be Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants.

In non-fiction, You Can Win happens to be the one for me.

Day 7:  A book that you have bought the most number of times?

The Animal Farm is one of the books that I have bought a number of times, mainly for the purpose of gifting. The allegorical work by George Orwell is a must in every booklover’s as well as non-booklover’s collection 😀

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 6

Day 6:  Most thought-provoking book you’ve read

Has to be – A Thousand Splendid Suns.

I read it before the Kite Runner so it had a lot more impact on me. The book is beautifully written and from start to the end, you remain engrossed with the characters. This is what made me expect a lot from Khaled Hosseini’s And The Mountain Echoed…which disappointed me 😦

Share the book that has made you stop and think, even for a small while 🙂

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 5

Day 5: A genre you would like to get into

Sci-fi. I have tried Thrillers and crime. But hardcore Sci-fi is something I am yet to explore. It is my weak spot because I am not that fond of science-related anything! I have read abridged versions of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Journey To The Center Of Earth and The Time Machine. But they are not sufficient, are they? I have been suggested the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy and I will start with it someday.

Do you have any other suggestions for the Genre?

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 4

Day 4: A book that makes you laugh out loud

There are many books that had me in splits!

To begin with, I love The Shopaholic series that is full of funny moments. Even the Twenties Girl written by the same author has similar humor that makes me LOL 😀

The next has to be The Princess Diaries. The way Mia writes about people and incidences…way too funny. I also love the exchanges between her and her Grandmere 😉

Enid Blyton’s Mysteries series with Clear Orf and of course, her boarding school series were way too funny for a teenager me 🙂

Back home, it is Anuja Chauhan who has never disappointed with her witty lines in her books such as The Zoya Factor and Pricey Thakur Girls. The Hinglish makes it all the more merry 😀 😛

And….the Harry Potter series…(here begins me mentioning HP books at the drop of a hat…sigh…No escaping there! ). I love each and every part in the books that have humor involving the Weasleys. From Arthur to Ginny. Special mention – Gred and Forge ❤ 😉

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 3

Day 3: A book you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving

I never thought I would like Sons Of Fortune by Jeffrey Archer! But the book was such unputdownable that I completed it within two days flat! 😛 Well, it was not THE ONLY book that I thought I wouldn’t like…but this one takes the cake. This is because….I was judging the book by its cover and also by its title 😉

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 2

Day 2: The environment you most enjoy reading in

Once upon a time, I had the superpower of reading anywhere I wanted. The environment didn’t matter at all. I have read with my legs up on the window sills, head dangling from my bed, under the bed (monsters were my buddies 😛 ) and even…in the bathroom because I needed to finish a novel during my exams!! I have taken my books to people’s homes and read while eating on the table, boxing of ears from parents notwithstanding. I have read in every climate imaginable and without any distractions.

With a 9 to 5 (add two more hours to it) job, which requires me glued to the screen doesn’t exactly help my cause. I can no more read sitting upright and have major distractions on the way. That explains my long pending book and reading lists…

Ideally, give me a quiet room with a cup of coffee and a bed with loads of cushions and a blanket, and I will happily tuck myself in and read pages after pages ❤  The other alternative is reading in the balcony post lunch. 😀

What is your favourite environment that gets you reading?

30 Day BOOKS Challenge – Day 1

With the Game Of Thrones Challenge over (PHEW!), it is time for me to turn a new page and what better way to do so than taking up 30 Day Book challenge 😀 You heard me right! There will be books, books and more books in the challenge. After all, one of the best ways to read a book is to cozy up in a comforter with a beverage in hand on any winter day 😉

Day 1: The five books bought most recently by me

1. The Walled City

2. Marley and Me

3. The Path of the Swan

4. Tin Fish

5. The Purple Line

Out of these, I have managed to finish number 4 and 5. 🙂

An addition on Jan 13: I am half way through Marley and Me 😀

30 Day Game Of Thrones Challenge – Day 30

With this post…the series of Game of Thrones Challenge comes to a close. I thank Patrick (who has his own lovely blog on GOT), Santulan, Kanzensakura and everyone else who have been on exploring GOT and adding to my meagre knowledge 🙂 It was awesome sharing the same passion as you guys. Yeayy!!!! 😀

Day 30: One celebrity from the show you would love to meet IRL?

I would love to meet Arya Stark/Maisie Williams. When I was on Twitter, I used to follow her and she has a wacky sense of humor. She also has a pet tortoise and is cool in every which way. Yeay and yeay 😀 And because I am such a greedy person :P, I would also love to meet Peter Dinklage and Pedro Pascal 😀

Whom would you like to meet and why?

30 Day Game Of Thrones Challenge – Day 29

Day 29: Free day

Today, I will tell you a very weird thing. I don’t know…but ever since I have known that this man is pure evil walking free, I have hated him to the core. His sigil, his very personal sigil is that of a Mockingbird.

And know what? Everytime I see him, all I  I can think of “To Kill A Mockingbird” and that is a book by Harper Lee 😛 It can be autobiography of the person who wipes this cunning little evil thing from the map of Westeros.

30 Day Game Of Thrones Challenge – Day 28

Day 28: If you were to be in Westeros, which profession would you like to take up?

I would be a Maester by profession. Why? Well, I have a certain thirst for knowing everything that exists in the world. The chain worn by a maester, with the links having special significance will be my badge of honour or rather, my “degrees” that I will proudly display. I would teach the kids of noble houses – another favorite occupation. Also, I would be able to heal people with injuries so, I can also be a medico!! Multitasking is indeed a fascinating thing and in Westeros, it becomes double the fun 😛

30 Day Game Of Thrones Challenge – Day 27

Day 27: Best Costume In The Show

I love the detailing that is done on all the costumes that is done on the show. The designers do know their job isn’t it? Here is a peek into an exhibit that will give you all the feels 😛

The best costume according to me is those of the wildlings. How they substitute stuff to create amazing winter protection gear is simply awe-inspiring. Good job team GOT 🙂
